IPE DECK CLEANING & STAINING MAINTENANCE

You must give time to acclimate your decking to its surroundings. This could be only a few days-it really depends on the local environment and the unique lumber ‘s path. Ideally you can store your decking boards under cover and close where they will be mounted so they can come into an equilibrium of sorts with the environment. A hurried construction will result in a deck that won’t lie flat and which could later crack or crumble.

You were presumably told that the floor is extremely low-maintenance if you went to IPE decking for a drool-worthy upgrade to your house. But though it is valid, “no-maintenance” does not mean that. Keeping up with a simple routine of cleaning and repairs will stretch the life of your boards for years and years and keep your deck looking good. It’s not hard, it’s not costly, but it’s necessary. If you want your IPE to fade to silver, after installation, you’ll just need to seal the deck. And no need to fear, the process of bleaching does not affect the boards’ structural integrity. However, you will have to re-apply the sealer periodically to preserve the original coloring.

Periodic application of a wood finish is required by IPE every so often. Far more so than regular timber, like cedar or pine. When you reapply an IPE stain or polish, you would first need to prepare the wood by scraping mud, grime, mold, etc. Failure to prep the IPE correctly can result in a bad appearance of the stain and or premature coating fading.

For a new deck installation, you may well be able to bypass the brightener and switch straight on to oil until the cleaner is added. It depends on the condition of the panels. Let the deck get some sun for a few days if in question, and then see how the color changes after the scrubbing you’ve given it. The brightener agent will help to combine various colors on a deck, but whether or not to apply it will be up to you.
